INDIGENOUS PEOPLES + INTERNATIONAL HIV COINFECTION + VIRAL HEPATITIS ELIMINATION CONFERENCE 2023

On the 21st of July Blak Pearl senior Elder Uncle Ringo Terrick was invited to speak on the Indigeous People’s segment of the International HIV Coinfection + Viral Hepatitis Elimination Conference hosted by the IAS Society’s broader conference in Meanjin

Speaking from his lived experiences and the experiences of his community here in Narrm, he spoke of the ways the community support folk with HIV and HEP C And Blak Pearl’s aspirations for advocating for more humane approaches that support services can adopt to care for the community, in ways that respect self determination and Aboriginal sovereignty

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Atherton Gardens to commemorate and pay respects to the Stolen Generations, and their family and communities. Uncle Frank (Dootrule) Wandin opened the proceedings with a welcome to country and told us his story and the story of Atherton Gardens
The Mayor Claudia Nguyen representing the City of Yarra delivered a wonderful speech to the community
And Uncle Ringo Terrick - captured in this video, closed the day with a powerful speech about his Stolen Generations story, the resilience and power of the Yarra Aboriginal community, and his work at Blak Pearl Studio
